The Crazy Cotheran's--Super busy Saturday
Saturday was a super busy day! The campground had a few planned father/kid activities that we didn’t want to miss. We also had things we wanted to do since this was our last full day. We started the day with the kids and Corey fishing.
Then they competed in the dad*kids events. They had to try and knock ping pong balls of bottles using a water gun, see who could get a ringer playing horseshoes (there were only 2 dads that got it and Corey was one of them), and then see who could sweep up the most balloons in 10 seconds. In the end Corey placed 2nd in the Dads and Noah 2nd in the kids. They walked away with $30.00 in store credit (which the kids already used).
After the games we headed back to the river for one last time. They have spent hours building dams. The kids were able to make Corey key chains and cards during the craft time.Later that evening we went to the ice cream social and played a few games of bingo.
Since I have cooked/fixed 3 meals a day since Saturday .We decided to go out for dinner. We found a yummy BBQ place in Black Mountain and right beside it was a great putt-putt place.
Boy, am I tired from our fun filled day! I’m sad that we head home tomorrow, but we leave again in 2 weeks for another 9 day vacation!!This time Corey will be with us the WHOLE time:)
The Crazy Cotheran's--Happy Father’s Day!

We aren’t called the Crazy Cotheran’s for nothing!
The Crazy Cotheran's--Wrapping up the weekend
While I was gone on Saturday to do the wedding Corey took a few pictures with his phone. The kids had craft time, ice cream social, and a lollipop flash light hunt. They had lots of fun while mama was away. I was able to come back Sunday after church and spent some time with everyone. We stayed at the pool a lot and the kids played putt putt. We had a great time until Monday morning when it was raining. It is NOT fun having to unhook everything on the camper with it pouring down! In all we had a really great time and are counting down till our next camping trip.
The Crazy Cotheran's--Memorial Weekend
We wanted to take the camper out again, but we had to stay close to home since I was shooting a wedding. We found a nice small campground that has everything the kids need a pool, mini golf, playground and a place to ride their bikes! We were able to get in a little swimming before the storms started. It ended up raining on and off all afternoon. We kept the kids occupied by playing games and coloring. Noah and Lucy just liked looking out of the windows. That boy and his dog are some else:)
The Crazy Cotheran's--Mother’s Day
We are a zoo family and love going to different ones. One of our favorite is the NC Zoo in Asheboro,NC. It is about 2 1/2 hours from our house, but so worth it. I mentioned it to a few of our friends, and they wanted to go also. So on Mother’s Day we didn’t get to sleep in because we met at 6am headed for North Carolina. The drive really didn’t seem that long and we were able to get there right when they opened. We spent about 6 hours exploring and having fun! If you ever get the chance you really need to check it out!
The Crazy Cotheran's--Happy Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is bitter sweet for me. I am so blessed to have 3 amazing kids and l love them more than I ever thought possible. I love spending the day with them, but it makes me miss my mom terribly. Of course I miss her everyday ,but it’s just harder for me on Mother’s Day.So I try to keep busy on certain holidays. We are heading to the zoo to spend the day doing fun stuff!
Hope everyone enjoys their day!
Happy Mother’s Day!!!
The Crazy Cotheran's--He got me!
There has not been one time in 12 years that Corey has been able to truly surprise me. Most of the time it’s my fault because I really don’t like surprises. I like knowing what's going on and being in control of it. Yeah, one of my many issues. Well Corey finally got me yesterday! We were talking on the phone while he was driving home from work when he said he would call me back. When he called back he said they needed him back at work so he would see me after church. This happens a lot at his work so I didn’t think anything about it. While I was at church I was telling my friends “I hope Corey has made it home from work because he is tired.” They were like “Poor Corey.” Fast forward to me coming in the door from church. I start walking over to the living room and Corey tells me “Since you surprised me with the camera for my birthday. I am going to give you your Mother’s Day gift early.” I still had no idea until I looked on the arm of the couch and this is what I found……
A RED MINIATURE DACHSHUND!!!!!! I had a weenie dog for 10 years named Frannie and loved her so much! I had been talking about wanting another one,but never thought I would really get her. Come to find out a few people were in on this. Remember the friends from church that said “poor Corey”? Well they had known for 4 days and Jamie even rode with Corey to pick her up! Zoe insisted on naming her so her name is Rosie Frannie Cotheran! She is so tiny and she blends into the couch:) I just want to say thanks to everyone that helped Corey pull this off and to my wonderful hubby that is listening even when I think he's not:)
Spartanburg Spark--Miss Mom: Mother’s Day memories
Mother’s Day is just around the corner. Every year Mom’s all over the country find themselves on the receiving end of gifts from their children. Often the Mom’s spouse or significant other will help with the gifting part, buying something for the younger children to give to their mother.
The list of things Mom’s get from their families is quite varied. Bottles of perfume, bath salts, books, flowers, potted plants, cards, gift certificates to a nail or hair salon, small kitchen utensils, and often a late lunch at a restaurant, are common gifts. The traditional breakfast in bed still makes an appearance, especially when kids are still in grade school, but Mom’s can try to discourage that in advance. One such breakfast is enough for most moms, as they know that the food may or not be edible, and it is a surety that the state of the kitchen will be disastrous.
Kids struggle to find THE perfect gift for their mothers. And we Moms appreciate the effort and the love demonstrated. We have our favorite gifts from our children as well, and often those gifts were more non-traditional in content. I thought that this year I would share several special gifts given to special moms. These stories were all given to me by friends, and I thank every one of you for your contribution. What makes Mother’s day special isn’t the gift or the cards, it is the building of memories like these.
There was this gift from a teenager, who’s all grown up now. Her mom said it was one of her most memorable gifts.
when I was a teenager both my mom and my best friend’s mom had a crush on a baseball player for the Toronto Blue Jays. So we both bought 2 tickets to a game and all went together. I think my mom liked it so much because not only was it thoughtful and something we could all do together but she knew I had no interest at all in baseball and was bored to tears but went anyway to share it with her. And probably because she got to stare at Pat Border’s butt all afternoon
A dad helped his daughter pick out a gift Mom loved every year.
When I was little my Dad would take me to Hanningtons and we would buy a Bronnely lemon shaped soap for her, I still remember the wonderful lemony scent.
This year I bought her 2 scented rose bushes, took her to the cinema and bought her flowers and a card.
Another young lady took a more creative approach.
We used to make cards for our mom. She probably still has them.
I think I wrote a song for her once, but only once, because she made me sing it to everyone we encountered. It was embarrassing.
And, in Elementary School Art Class, we made clay statues every Mother’s day. One year, the assignment was to make a bust. I was nervous about hair, so I made a balding guy (with that little ring of hair), wearing a suit. His expression didn’t come out the way I planned and he looked angry, so I made a coffee spill on his suit coat. Mom loved it.
An older brother used diligence to teach his baby sister a special word in time for Mother’s day.
Our son spent hours helping our daughter perfect saying “Mom” or “Mama” She mastered it just before Mother’s day a few years back. Neat for me but also for my step-mom who lived across country. We called her on Mother’s day so she could hear my daughter show off her first spoken word.
Another daughter followed in the footsteps of an older generation.
This year, we had sillouette paper cuttings done of Gracie and we’re giving them to my mom, my Mother-in-law, and my grandma. I remember having one of these when I was a kid (don’t know what happened to the one my mom had, but my grandma still has it, and she has one of her son, too). Of course, I’m keeping one of them for ME.
A mom shares the gifts she’s given and received, and that includes her favorite from her developmentally disabled youngest child.
I always give Momma flowers along with something handmade, we’re huge on handmade gifts in my family. When we were growing up, past the treasures you get from your little children, we always gave her and my maternal grandmother a bottle of their favorite perfume. My father’s mother got things for the many hobbies she had, including one year, rocks. Don’t laugh, she collected rocks, she polished them, made jewelry out of them. So yes, indeed, I did give my Grandma a box of rocks one year.
When they were growing up, my herd presented me with the usual and wonderful collections of painted terracotta pots, the butterfly poem hands, and one year, they even sent me flowers-prompted mostly by the little blonde girl’s threat of death to her brothers to enforce their participation. However last year, I got something that will never ever be topped.
A card. From Robbie, with the sentence Robbie loves Mom written in it. Without prompting from anybody, the first sentence he’s ever written without copying from a book. Best..Gift…Ever.
My favorite from my kids?
I had lost my little cat Gloria following a short bout with cancer. She was 13 when I had her put to sleep. My daughters decided to cheer me up and give my Mother’s day present a few days early. One of them presented me with a bracelet box. I’m thinking, “Wow, they actually spent money on my gift this year.” Then I opened the box. Inside was a pink cloth strip with fasteners on either end and sparkles throughout it’s length. My first thought was, “That is the ugliest bracelet I’ve ever seen.” Then the other daughter dumped a small white ball of fur into my lap, and I realized that the “bracelet” was actually an small cat collar. They instinctively knew I needed a new kitty to fill the hole made by Gloria’s passing. I’ve had Luna-tic for six years now, and I’ll always treasure that moment, and their delight at planning my surprise gift..
I wish everyone who is a Mom, a Grand-mom or is the child of a mom, a very Happy Mother’s day.

I just realized that I totally forgot about this great holiday! The Brooklyn Botanical Garden just reminded me of an upcoming celebration… in… Brooklyn. Surely there must be some celebrating in South Carolina? It looks like there was one in Boiling Springs on the 12th…
I’ve probably missed my chance to celebrate at all, as most folks celebrate in mid-April, but I have to give it a shot! Locals, give me details!
