Meltons Message--A look at Week 2

Several big games highlight the Week 2 schedule such as Dorman at Spartanburg, Gaffney at Greenwood and Clinton at Woodruff.
Two in particular catch my eye, though.
Chesnee will have a tough battle as it prepares to host Landrum. Both teams are 1-0 and got great play from their quarterbacks.
Walt Miller threw three touchdowns for the Eagles, [...]

Midget On The Edge--An Angry Robot: This name doesn’t apply to me

Here is my second column for Flying Oskar!

I am not angry. I am not a robot. This name doesn’t apply to me. But, I made the mistake of bringing up the name from a past journal I had and both Chris and Gloria went nuts over it. We were sitting at the Little River Coffee Bar last week debating on what the name of my column should be.

“It’s funny because it doesn’t make sense.”

Being married, this logic is finally starting to make sense to me. Well, “make sense” may not be the phrase I want to use, but you see where I’m coming from. Marriage is about compromise. Not settling, but compromise. Everyone has faults and flaws and quirks and a marriage is about embracing those things and valuing the person for being who they are.

Seeding Spartanburg--More Exposure on Kids on Prescription Drugs

Kudos to the New York Times for continuing to expose the dangers and the issues surrounding putting children on powerful drugs for hyperactivity and temper tantrums and oppositional defiant disorder (what is that? Disobeying???) Anyway, I'm glad to see much light being shed on what has become an incredibly sad problem for so many children. [...]

Midget On The Edge--Vegan Challenge Begins!

So today marks September first. That means that I’m on day one of thirty of my vegan challenge. Every day, I’m going to be recording what I eat, and taking photos of meals I prepare. I don’t want to flood my website with daily details, so I’ll be doing weekly summaries here, and daily posts elsewhere.

Also, I’ve started running again. Well, what I’m doing now is more like power-walking until I can get used to jogging and running again. I did it for the first time Monday and I am STILL sore because I’m so out of shape (aaand didn’t warm up or stretch). I’ve been playing WiiFit, too. According to WiiFit, I only need to lose 4 pounds to reach my optimum BMI, but I knew weight wasn’t really the issue. I need to tone and shape up, and I’m going to bust my ass to do that before our trip to Michigan in a month. I have a solid goal and a buddy for encouragement; I can do this!

I’ve signed up to two new sites. Daily Mile will track my progress walking and running, and Steepster will track my growing obsession with tea. I’ll add links to my profiles on those pages to the left where my other pages are listed. Let me know if you join and we can be pals!

Off to write my Flying Oskar column! Weee!

Midget On The Edge--Why I am vegan

I keep telling myself that I won’t post stuff like this all the time, but I can’t…I just can not express the pain this makes me feel. Going vegetarian has already become part of who I am. Vegan will soon follow.

THIS IS WHY I AM GOING VEGAN.

Hoppy Hour--Thirsty Fest in Asheville under way

Hey folks,
In case you missed it in today’s (Monday’s) Herald-Journal, here is the latest news from RJ Rockers: http://www.goupstate.com/article/20100830/ARTICLES/8301001/1083/ARTICLES?Title=RJ-Rockers-hires-president-to-help-manage-rapid-growth
Congrats to the gang across the street and welcome aboard, Henry. It’s amazing how fast Rockers has grown in the past year and Spartanburg should certainly be proud of its one and only brewery.
Speaking of Rockers, I [...]

Midget On The Edge--A Day of Bad Things

Today has been a huge bummer.

Before lunch, Kyle called me freaking out. He had our dog tied up to a tree a block from our apartment, and was trying to coax a smaller dog to come to him so it wouldn’t get hit by a car. As Kyle left the apartment to take Molly for a walk, he passed a fellow who had emerged from the woods across the street, walking very briskly. On his way back to our apartment, Kyle noticed the man was gone, but a small white and brown dog was trotting around the grass, dangerously close to the busy road. Kyle tied Molly to a tree nearby, unwilling to leave the small dog on its own, and called me to come help him. I left for lunch early to save the day.

When I was half way there, Kyle called me again and told me that the dog was gone, so he put Molly back into our apartment. The dog would get within a few feet of him and then bolt as if he thought it was a game. It took off up a side street, where Jessica went after it with her car after Kyle told her what was going on. I cut through to look for the dog on my way home and found it, but just as with Kyle, it would only come within a few feet and then run. During his walk down the side street, Kyle saw the man he had seen come out of the woods before. The dog appeared to be following him, and all Kyle can figure is that he tried to dump the dog. We couldn’t catch the poor thing, so we went home for lunch. So depressing.

On top of that, a tenant in my building is getting evicted. It’s a pretty sad situation, but a long time coming. A little girl is involved, which makes the situation unbearable.

Allergy shots at the end of the day suck, too.

Gloria Farmer's Fake Blog--It’s All Happening Monday

I feel bad about this since it’ll be the first time I have stuff to post and intentionally don’t. I want to begin posting things simultaneously on FlyingOskar.com and here.  So if I post now I’ll be one day ahead.  So instead, I’m waiting.  Yeah.  I know.  Sucks.  BUT!

I plan on posting the new “cover” of Gold and Blue and Gray (what I fantasize will be the cover when I either get published or publish myself/ latter more likely) along with the prologue cover (Dani and Kyle in the mouth of the guy) and the first page redone in crow quill.  THEN Wednesday the new cover of the new zine which will just actually be a digital “zine” until the move to Savannah.  And possibly a comic to go with it depending on how long the rest of this takes.  And I plan on keeping that pace up of redoing older pages and posting brand new comics for the zine.

And of course beginning Chapter 2 at the same time.  Progress on that will go a tad slower but the second we’re up to speed with the older pages it’ll take off again.  And yes don’t laugh I do hope to publish stuff eventually.  Jerks.
